This new group of paintings and drawings, “equipoise”, is a further exploration of “life studies”, a Pulse exhibition at MOCA Cleveland (2006).
The lines and colors of these paintings and drawings celebrate the complexity and necessity of equilibrium in nature and in human affairs.
The lines are borrowed gestures of my wet hair.  The colors are chosen sequentially based on the manufacturing numbers of Shiva casein paint.
Layering the motifs of these paintings, based on simple rules, creates a system of complexity, richness and chance.
The post-modern means of using “ready-mades” and working with simple rules reflect the Taoist precept of (wu wei), of not forcing and letting things be.
