Health and Wellness organizations are one of the backbones of any community. aroundkent has a list of organizations and events in Kent and Northeast Ohio that contain wonderful, compassionate people.
Art is an important communication vehicle––an
expression of thoughts, emotions, reactions and opinions. It is the
culmination of an artist’s experiences and impressions. It is at once a
creative response to and a statement about the world. A portion of the
artist is invested in every piece.Hattie Larlham Creative Arts is a studio
where people with disabilities interested in art can paint, create
ceramic pieces or shoot photos. A staff of art trackers assists program
participants in realizing their goals. During each session, residents
have one-on-one time with a professional artist, who is there to do
exactly what the artist wants.
Mission and Goals
For more than 45 years,
Hattie Larlham has remained committed to
its tradition of quality care for children
and adults with developmental disabilities.
To ensure your child or
loved one with a disability receives the
highest quality care possible, Hattie Larlham
is comprised of seven specialized agencies,
each working in concert to deliver the quality
care to your loved one deserves. Each Hattie
Larlham agency strives to meet the needs
of a changing population who now have more
opportunities available than ever before.
With commitment to the organization’s
mission, vision and values, each agency
looks forward to continuing our founder’s
rich legacy.

The 13th Annual Bowl Against Abuse is over but it's never too late to donate! Children's Advocacy Center of Portage County
For the last 13 years The Children’s Advocacy Center has teamed up with hundreds of bowlers, donors, and volunteers in an effort to reduce the devastating effects of child abuse. Planning is underway for the 13th annual “Bowl Against Abuse”. This fun and meaningful event brings community members together to raise awareness about the problem of child abuse while raising funds to support the goals of The Children’s Advocacy Center.
The mission of the Center is to improve the community’s response to child abuse and neglect and to lessen the negative impact of abuse on children. For sexually abused children the Center promotes a thorough, coordinated, child-centered response to child sexual abuse, it provides expert medical evaluations, and child victim and family advocacy. The program also raises awareness of all child abuse issues through community education and training.
